WHO WE ARE

FerMUN was created in 2006 at the public International Highschool in Ferney-Voltaire (French-Swiss border). It is a Model United Nations club made of 200+ students that holds a conference every year. The first one took place at the C.E.R.N in 2012 and the 2nd at the International Telecommunications Union in 2013.

FerMUN's particularity is that it is a bilingual (French & English) club, which means that all documents, resolutions and even live debates are translated and interpreted in both languages so that everyone can understand. The FerMUN club does not select its members or participants, giving identical opportunities and experiences to young people from all social backgrounds.

Since the theme of  FerMUN 2013 was “ICTs as a way forward in Development, Peace and Prosperity”, the FerMUN students got extremely involved with the topic of ICTs. They participated in discussions and conferences with the ITU, but also workshops such as “Girls and ICTs” (& even more !).

FerMUN became a BYND 2015 partner and decided to send 12 of its most involved students from Senior Year to the BYND 2015 Global Youth Summit which takes place from the 5th to the 8th of September in San José, Costa Rica.

'Beyond 2015' refers to the UN and other civil society mechanisms that will establish sustainable development frameworks for the post MDG world. The deadline for their goals is 2015. The BYND Summit in September will target the use of ICTs for development.

One of the main outcomes of the BYND2015 Global Youth Summit will be a short statement from worldwide youth which encapsulates key issues and recommendations for the years to come. This statement will be presented by the Costa Rican President (Laura Chinchilla) to the UN General Assembly in September 2013.

FerMUN, as a non-profit association, is able to participate in the Youth Summit thanks to the amazing support and help of its sponsor: PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Switzerland.
